Why We Exist Custodians Disclosures Privacy Business Continuity Plan

Goodreid Investment Counsel is a private, employee-owned investment management firm focused on the needs of high net worth families, individual investors and institutions. Founded in 1986 as Goodreid Investment Strategy within a large North American brokerage, we have been independent stewards of our clients' wealth for four decades.

Our clients come from all walks of life, including those who have created a meaningful financial nest egg or are accumulating wealth for retirement. We also manage for business owners who have realized a windfall on the sale of a business, and families who are managing wealth across generations. Our actively managed portfolio approach also provides investment solutions for pensions, estates, trusts, corporations, charitable and endowment funds, and all types of registered plans including RRSP, RRIF, and TFSA.

Our portfolio managers apply a consistent, disciplined process to build portfolios of quality fixed income and some of the world's best companies, with asset allocation personalized to each client to balance capital appreciation with preservation. Over time, our goal is to outperform relevant indices and our competition.

Our office is in Toronto, but our reach is continental: we are registered in ten Canadian provinces, two Canadian territories, and the United States, and serve clients across Canada and the U.S. Our managers routinely visit clients coast to coast, and stay in close contact by video, telephone, and email.

Goodreid provides investment management for individual and family accounts in excess of $500,000.

Our Purpose

Why We Exist

At Goodreid, we believe Canadians are stressed about their investments and ill-served by an overly complex and confusing wealth management industry. We exist to help our clients achieve financial peace of mind by allowing them to feel in control of their wealth.

As a fiduciary, we are legally and ethically obligated to put our clients' interests first. We do not sell products or collect commissions; instead, our clients own individual securities. Our fee structure is mutually beneficial as it is based on your portfolio’s market value, so when you do well, we do well.

  • Providing expert investment management to achieve superior returns
  • Following a disciplined and strategic approach with their investments
  • Providing first rate client service, communication, and professional advice
  • Being financial advocates, putting their interests first

By doing this, we enable our clients to take control of their financial futures.

Asset Security

Custodians

Goodreid works with three custodians for the majority of clients. Fidelity Clearing Canada, Scotia iTrade, , and Interactive Brokers Canada provide the fiduciary services that allow assets to be housed in a secure and transparent environment.

At no time will Goodreid take possession of cash or securities. Goodreid simply acts as a provider of investment management services to clients. This includes the ability to make changes in client accounts on a discretionary basis (i.e. without consultation with clients on a trade-by-trade basis). This authority is provided by an Investment Management Agreement Form (MAF) signed by each client at the time the accounts are opened, and the licencing to act as a discretionary manager provided by Provincial Regulators. The MAF outlines the duties and responsibilities of Goodreid and the obligations and authorizations of the client.

Goodreid’s policy is to maintain the highest standards of service for its clients. Goodreid has a fiduciary duty to its clients to act honestly, fairly, in good faith and in the best interest of its clients. It is our obligation to exercise the degree of care, diligence and skill that a reasonably prudent manager would exercise in any given situation. This standard of care extends to the service provided by all employees, officers and directors in each facet of Goodreid’s business operations.

Goodreid Investment Counsel Corp. and its employees, officers and directors are required to comply with all laws applicable to our business operations, including provincial securities laws governing the provision of investment advisory services.

We strictly adhere to all of the policies and procedures set forth in Goodreid Investment Counsel Corp.’s Policies and Procedures Manual. Data & Privacy

Privacy

The Personal Information and Electronic Documents Act (the Privacy Act) governs how organizations can collect, use and disclose the personal information of clients and employees.

Personal information includes any information about an identifiable individual other than that individual’s name, and the title, business address, and business phone number of an employee of an organization. This includes information about an individual’s age, address, ID number (such as S.I.N.), income, race, ethnic origin, medical history, employment history, opinions, political affiliations, bank account, credit cards, and purchasing habits.

Principles of the Privacy Legislation

The Privacy Officer is responsible and accountable for compliance with the Privacy Act.

Reasons for collecting personal data are identified before it is collected. The information collected is limited to what is essential for the purpose identified. Information is only used for the purpose defined and consented to by the individual, and must be destroyed when its purpose is complete, unless its retention is mandated by law (i.e., the Income Tax Act). Safeguards ensure the confidentiality of personal information.

Without the client’s express written consent, Goodreid, its employees, officers or directors will not permit inappropriate access to, or disclosure of, a client’s personal information to any person, except as may be required by legal process or statutory authority. The client’s consent is obtained in writing wherever possible, and separate consent is obtained for each instance of disclosure of personal information to an outside party.

Operational Resilience

Business Continuity Plan

In the event of a business disruption, Goodreid Investment Counsel Corp. will adhere to its business continuity plan. This plan is designed to safeguard the interests of our clients while providing an alternative means to quickly restore and resume business operations. Our plan details procedures that address both internal and external significant business disruptions. Internal business disruptions affect only our company’s ability to communicate and do business with our clients (i.e. fire, flood, loss of electrical power, etc.). External business disruptions affect the operation of a number of firms and financial markets, therefore eliciting extensive disruption (i.e. pandemic, terrorist attack, natural disaster).

Our business continuity plan focuses around providing alternative communications with clients, employees, regulators, financial institutions and carrying brokers; data backup and retrieval; and alternate physical workspace. Goodreid’s commitment is to ensure clients have prompt access to their investment accounts in the case of such an event.
